Christine Collister - singer-songwriter - October 2003 - review

Christine Collister played to a full listening house at the Cambridge Folk Club on Friday, 17 October 2003.

In an ambience of sheer delight, Collister's rapport with the audience set the context for an exceptional performance. Her magnetic charm eased through songs such as Tom Waits 'Dirt in the ground'; or old familiar one by Clive Gregson 'It's all just talk'. Her innovative rendition of 'Vincent' displayed the hollow soulful sound of her voice.

In a brief exchange of questions, Collister commented to Anne L Ryan that her voice was a gift; a delicate gift she is obliged to care for and use with respect. She does voice practice daily; and no longer pushes as before, but rather, tempers her vocal expression with a softer approach.

Whatever your views on Collister's voice then and now, her choice of material was satisfying, her delivery magical, and the overall performance - well, what else can I say....

It is always worth the wait for the next Collister gig.
