Kristina
Olsen
www.emergingmusic.co.uk
Kristina
is one of the most entertaining and compelling performers on the international
acoustic folk circuit. A fine instrumentalist (acoustic guitar, steel-body slide
guitar, saxophone, concertina and piano) as well as a powerful songwriter with
a big bluesy voice. Her mix of strong songs in the troubadour tradition, some
jazz-inspired sounds and powerful bottleneck blues (as well as her hilarious
storytelling) makes for a diverse and satisfying musical experience, on stage
and on disc.

Mundy-Turner's exuberant live performances feature
intricate harmonies, humorous story-telling, powerful arrangements and a deep
commitment to social justice and human rights. Influence by a melting pot of
musical styles they have created a sound that is potently and most emphatically
their own. An original acoustic music duo, their songwriting partnership has
produced work of breathing taking power and beauty.
"Anyone who
saw Mundy-Turner perform at Croperedy Festival in summer 2002 will be aware
of how powerful their music has become. If they are still touring by the time

Jim Moray
Jim Moray is a massive talent who has taken songs from English
traditional music and reworked them to create some of the most
startingly original and powerful contemporary recordings to come
out of the folk world in the last thirty years. "I am making music
that appeals to me as a 21 year old reasonably well-rounded musician.
Absorbing influences and interpreting songs your own way is deeply
traditional thing to do, and I feel I am coming from a tradition of
innovation if you like... I think what I do is just folk music
from the point of view of someone who has heard hip-hop and The Smiths
and Ligetti and Joseph Taylor and Radiohead and S-Club, and doesn't
differentiate past whether it's good or not."-Jim Moray

Free Agents
Free Agents is an acoustic trio comprising ex-Backyard Band musicians Dave Doddington, Myke Clifford,
and Philip Rundall. Influenced by blues, jazz, folk and more, their delivery is peppered with dry wit,
caustic comment, and a musical ability of breathtaking proportion. No strangers to our Club, we have
invited them to our stage at the request of our members.

And now for the details.
February 6
8pm
Kirsty McGee & Miranda Sykes
www.emergingmusic.co.uk
In July 2001 Kirsty McGee played Brampton Live Festival where she was introduced by Maddy Prior
as one of the year's most exciting new talents. Thirty minutes later the audience of 1000 people
cheered her from the stage with an ovation rivaling that reserved to greet festival headliner
Suzanne Vega later that evening. Two years later she is nominated for the "Horizon Award" at
the 2003 BBC Folk Awards.
"Distinctive and idosyncratic ... McGee's way with a good tune and a voice
that ranges from the intimate whisper of "Little Things" to the note perfect folk/jazz scat of "Stonewashed Jeans"
looks set to make a sizeable impression. BIG ISSUE 2001."

The Broken Family Band
This Cambridge based band have been making quite a stir on the national alt.country scene.
Their debut album received glowing reviews from Uncut, The Sunday Times, and The Independent. At
the Cambridge Folk Festival 2003 they brought the Friday night Club Tent to a standstill, so we
have invited them to continue the gig on our stage at the Cambridge Folk Club. Likely to be a jam
packed night. Advance booking advisable.
Support: Joe BoGGGs Wrecklessly original material: anarchic, sensitive,
surreal, varied. Passionate songs from the poet with three GGGs in his name.

An eclectic mix of performances from the instrumental guitarist to the modern singer-songwriter.
A 30 minute slot from special guests The Queensberry Rules: Armed only with acoustic guitar, double bass
and snare drum, The Queensberry Rules emerged in late 2001. Sharing a mutual appreciation of singer songwriters
such as Loudon Wainwright and Jez Lowe, the band provide a breathtaking display of super-tight harmonies combined
with a wry lyric and an unfeasibly catchy set of songs.

Helen Watson
www.bluemoonmusic.co.uk
Helen's magical music crosses the boundaries between blues, soul, jazz and folk. She began performing on the
folk-club circuit during the late sixties. She was one half of a soul duo, a singer with the renowned blues band
LOOSE LIPS; a member of the Manchester quartet WELL KNIT FRAMES; and was backing singer with CARMEL on an extensive
world tour. Helen's first album Blue Slipper was produced in Los Angeles by the legendary Glyn Johns; musicians
included Albert Lee, members of Little Feat and Bernie Leadon.
"
Helen Watson is a long neglected gem who's keeping R&B alive and positively kicking for anyone
willing to listen"

Last Night's Fun
If you haven't seen Last Night's Fun yet, On Tap magazine have some advice for you: "A box of tissues is an
absolute essential when attending a Last Night's Fun gig. When you're not using them to mop up the tears of laughter,
you'll need them to wipe away the tears of jealousy at the sheer mastery of their respective instruments".
