Kristina Olsen

Kristina is one of the most entertaining and compelling performers on the international acoustic folk circuit. A fine instrumentalist (acoustic guitar, steel-body slide guitar, saxophone, concertina and piano) as well as a powerful songwriter with a big bluesy voice. Her mix of strong songs in the troubadour tradition, some jazz-inspired sounds and powerful bottleneck blues (as well as her hilarious storytelling) makes for a diverse and satisfying musical experience, on stage and on disc.

Jim Moray

Jim Moray is a massive talent who has taken songs from English traditional music and reworked them to create some of the most startingly original and powerful contemporary recordings to come out of the folk world in the last thirty years. "I am making music that appeals to me as a 21 year old reasonably well-rounded musician. Absorbing influences and interpreting songs your own way is deeply traditional thing to do, and I feel I am coming from a tradition of innovation if you like... I think what I do is just folk music from the point of view of someone who has heard hip-hop and The Smiths and Ligetti and Joseph Taylor and Radiohead and S-Club, and doesn't differentiate past whether it's good or not."-Jim Moray

In Summary:

And now for the details.

February 6 8pm

Kirsty McGee & Miranda Sykes

In July 2001 Kirsty McGee played Brampton Live Festival where she was introduced by Maddy Prior as one of the year's most exciting new talents. Thirty minutes later the audience of 1000 people cheered her from the stage with an ovation rivaling that reserved to greet festival headliner Suzanne Vega later that evening. Two years later she is nominated for the "Horizon Award" at the 2003 BBC Folk Awards.

"Distinctive and idosyncratic ... McGee's way with a good tune and a voice that ranges from the intimate whisper of "Little Things" to the note perfect folk/jazz scat of "Stonewashed Jeans" looks set to make a sizeable impression. BIG ISSUE 2001."

Likely to be a jam packed night. Advance booking advisable.

Support: Joe BoGGGs Wrecklessly original material: anarchic, sensitive, surreal, varied. Passionate songs from the poet with three GGGs in his name.

Last Night's Fun

If you haven't seen Last Night's Fun yet, On Tap magazine have some advice for you: "A box of tissues is an absolute essential when attending a Last Night's Fun gig. When you're not using them to mop up the tears of laughter, you'll need them to wipe away the tears of jealousy at the sheer mastery of their respective instruments".
