Friday, 16 April - Three showcases at the Cambridge Folk Club -
Anne L Ryan; Phil Hare; James Varda.

After requests from friends, Cambridge Folk Club members and other performers, Anne L Ryan has taken the plunge and made a CD Moving Tone. Ryan sings passionately of everyday life, delivering gently from the heart. It is this humanity that is so all affecting, and draws you magnetically into her songs, demanding the listener give it full attention. For six years, she has been a leading spirit at the Cambridge Folk Club, encouraging and promoting the acoustic folk talent that comes through its door every Friday. Only rarely has she placed herself in the full glare on the club's stage -- when she has, she gives a sparkling performance of soul-sensuous mood music designed to capture and hold the listener. This will be the first live performance of the title track Movin' Tone, with double bassist Simon H Fell, www.simonfell.info. Other members of the band will be Keith Bleasby (percussion) and Mike Bearpark (guitar). Moving Tone will be released in June. www.cambridgefolkclub.org and www.movingtone.com

The evening will start at 8pm with singer-songwriter James Varda, whose new release In The Valley has been described by Time Out as tender and introspective, consummately unassuming, and achingly affecting. www.jamesvarda.com

He will be followed by Phil Hare, one of the country's finest acoustic guitarists, who will present a selection from his wide repertoire of original music starting at 9pm.

Anne L Ryan's set will start at 10pm.
